The three buildings topped with crosses is the old hospital in Bruges. It was operation until the 1970s and is the oldest hospital in Europe dating back to the 1100s.

The outer edges of the city, the lac d’amour. Apparently they allow tourists to believe it means the Lake of Love, but in actuality it is the Lake where the Evil Spirit Dwells.

The Beguinage which is a lay sisterhood of the Catholic Church. Similar to nuns, they would have taken a vow of chastity. However, they liked their loopholes, as the vow was only valid while within the beguinage compound; they could have sex so long as it wasn’t in compound. Since they were required to be back by 6.30pm, the rule “no sex after six” was established.

The now famous Bruges Belfry, features quite a bit in the movie “In Bruges”. Unfortunately our tour ended just after the Belfry closed for the day, so we were unable to go up. However, at the base of the belfry you can see two rival fry stands, which are said to compete for the best fries in Bruges. We had a taste test that evening and decided by our standards the stand on the right was superior.

Gingervere is the Middle English origin of ginger. Despite being the go-to word to describe redheads, some definitions of ginger are: spirit, liveliness, vigor, piquancy, enliven, and animation.

I'm a 21-year-old student originally from Canada, but currently on an adventure in Belgium for the semester. This blog will follow me, my musings, and whatever shenanigans I get up to while I travel around Europe and occassionally attend classes.
